Afghanistan
Knotted in Afghanistan.
Their contribution
Geometric rigour. Five hundred years of the loom.
Afghanistan is where the vocabulary of the oriental rug was written. Our Afghan workshops are concentrated in the north — in regions where the knot-making tradition has been continuous for more than five hundred years. Afghan rugs are known for their geometric rigour: the grid, the octagon, the lozenge. We commission contemporary interpretations that honour the grammar while speaking in a modern voice.
Knot type: Ghiordes (Turkish) knot. Signature palette: deep madder, indigo, ivory. Knot density range: 100–150 KPSI.
